Go Downtown Pres

I am so thankful to be serving on the launch team of this new church. It is amazing to see all that God is doing for HIS church even now. He is working in incredible ways and I am so blessed and grateful to get to serve along side a great team of people who are working to make this new church a reality.

Downtown Presbyterian will be launching this fall with preview/reveal services starting in the next month or two. ANYONE who is interested in coming, please please please let me know! We would love to have you come worship with us.

check out our website www.ourdownchurch.org I copied the stuff below from the website.

Downtown Presbyterian will be guided by Scripture, serve the community, following Jesus by eating with, speaking to, and claiming as neighbors the sick, hungry, homeless and lost. We will be regional in scope, gathering people from surrounding neighborhoods and the Greater Columbia area. We want to reflect the diversity of Columbia. We will worship with joy while embracing the richness of ancient spiritual practices and remaining open to modern worship styles. We will welcome all people to worship, learn and serve with us no matter where they are on their spiritual journey.

Giving my life to the only one...

Its an (almost) full moon right at the moment. For pretty much as long as I can remember I have been fascinated by the moon. That is still true. I have been out at our lake house today washing bed spreads and doing school work. The weather was spectacular (mid-70's) and the sun was out in full force. This evening I was able to see the sun set on one side of the house and see the moon shining brightly on the other. It was truly God's creativity- what an amazing artist.

Anyways.. every time I see the moon lyrics from a contemporary Christian song called Starry Night by Chris August. The chorus says "I've given my life to the only One who makes the moon reflect the sun... every starry night, that was his design." God's total and utter creative is just simply Awesome. Absolutely amazing.

This picture was taken on my phone and does not do it justice. But if you can imagine me is the other side of the point with shades of hot pink and orange as the sun was setting. The moon was already out in full force with the clarity to see the crevices and craters. It was reflecting off the water that was a blue-ish color on this side of the point and was a vivid orange-ish-pink on the other side. Just awesome.

I am not quite remotely ready for summer to be here yet (that means a thesis has to be finished...) but I have been LOVING this great weather we have had recently! It is SO beautiful!!! Today it got up to around 70 degrees... maybe even just above 70! So nice!! And the sweet sun shine is so wonderful! LOVE LOVE LOVE the spectacular weather and so thankful for a little break in the winter temperatures for a few days!

Now I know my ABCDs....

I have been slack the past week or two at doing my snapshots of thanks. I can assure you it is NOT because I have not had sooooo much to be thankful for. I just have been lazy about posting. BUT... Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday I got to spend with Sarah Boyd. Despite that she was sick Wednesday and not feeling great, I still loved spending the time with her. Here is a video of her cuteness on Sunday while she was painting a picture for her great grandma!!! She is not normally topless, but watercolors and a white shirt don't make for such a great mix, so the shirt came off!

Perfect end to a beautiful day...

Today I was so thankful to work all day, getting a TON done for my committee meeting on Monday.... and then get to relax on the back porch in the spectacularly beautiful weather with a glass of red wine and, most importantly, my mom! She and I sat on the back porch for about an hour. We talked and just enjoyed the mother-daughter time! I am so blessed!!

Ahhh... a good cup o' production

This may not seem major or important to most of the world, but I am SOOO thankful that for two days in a row I have been super productive on thesis stuff. I am over school work and ready to move on to a new chapter of life. But until my thesis stuff is done... I cant. None the less.... most days it is a true struggle to be productive on school work. I am thankful both Thursday AND Friday were amazingly productive days. This starbucks venti white mocha helped!!

Ahh... venti non-fat white chocolate mocha no whip.... heaven in a cup :)

Sweet Sunshine

Today I have been so thankful for the sun shining. It has been cold and rainy for what seems like forever. (yes... I do know it has only been a few days!) Today was BEAUTIFUL! The sun was shining and it was not too cold!

Snapshot of thanks 365

I saw on another blog where a friend was posting a picture every day as a snapshot of she and her family's life. I saw on yet another blog where a friend was posting once a day something she was thankful for. In both cases it might not be anything fancy or formal, it could be something big or small. I thought to myself, I can do this. I can gain so much by noticing more regularly the world around me and the many blessings that God has placed in my life. So.. I decided I was going to combine the two and do a snapshot of thanks 365. For the next year, I am going to work my hardest to post a picture and something I am thankful for. I will continue to blog and write longer posts as I have some thing to share or write. I will just also be doing the snapshots of thanks 365 too!!

So...the first Snapshot of Thanks 365

I am SOO thankful for this sweet little girl! My niece is the greatest! I love her sooo much and she is turning into such a smart, sweet, and special young lady!

Here she is playing in the kitchen my grandfather made my sister and I 27 years ago!

Me.

So... just for the heck of it, I decided to participate in Kelly's "Show Us Your Singles". You never know where you are going to meet the love of your life so as a single person who is totally open to what ever means God has planned for me to cross paths with the love of my life... Here I Go!!

A little about me...

My name is Laura. I am a late 20 something southern girl, born and raised. I have lived in South Carolina my entire life. My faith is the very core of who I am. I am active in mission work both locally and around the world serving as a board of trustee for a medical missions organization. I am also helping launch a new church here in Columbia as a way to serve my local community.

I love to cook and entertain. My family and friends are my world and keep me going every day! My niece, who is two, just might be the coolest kid around. I am also a bit of a college football junkie. My blood runs orange! GO TIGERS!! I grew up on the lake, so I love ALL things related to the water. The past couple years I have developed a love for the mountains too as my family has a vacation home in western NC.

I am finishing up graduate school in May. Right now my time is focused on finishing my thesis and research. When I am done, I will have 2 masters degrees (architecture and healthcare design)

If I missed anything or you want to know more, shoot me an email!
